After doing her PhD in Edinburgh, Carol devoted herself to language policy in black South African education. She has a life-long interest in language and thinking. She continues to do classroom based research on language, the analysis of textbooks and language policy in the primary school phase.

Since 1994, Carol has taught on and off at Wits University, developed numerous reading materials for second language learners and has supervised Master’s and PhD students.  Carol has also had extensive experience analysing the language structures of English. She has had broad experience in editing academic writing.

Apart from numerous business, academic and other magazines, David writes for national and international newspapers. He is an Opinionista for the online newspaper, The Daily Maverick (www.dailymaverick.co.za) and has written a regular newsletter for a UK graduate employment website. For a number of years he had a weekly column interviewing businessmen and a column in another publication interviewing sportsmen. He has written four books, including a bestseller on a professional rugby player caught up in a sex video scandal, (Joost: The Man in the Mirror). David is currently completing a biography on the Irish Franciscan friar, Father Stan Brennan, who amongst some astonishing achievements, buried the assassinated leader of the South African Communist Party, Chris Hani.

When not involved in a book, David gives writing courses and edits academic writing sourced from Universities world-wide.

Katy Chance was born in London, UK and raised in England, Scotland, Wales and Singapore before coming to South  Africa. 

She has written and edited for radio, TV, online and print and been editing in  print for the past decade, spending the last eight years with Business  Day.

She has a BA (cum laude) with majors in  linguistics and psychology with other courses including communications,  classical culture and special French.

She is a member of Mensa  (South  Africa).

Her interests include fine wine and  food, travel, reading and a general love of language and  languages.
